PLATYPUS SKATEBOARD DECK
Overview
This skateboard deck was a collaboration with Platypus Board Co. for their 2019 Fall product launch. We created a double headed platypus graphic reminiscent of 90’s cartoons, stickers, and street art.

Challenges
The main challenges on this one was creating a layout that would accomplish the idea and still fit well on a board. The orginal concept had the text split up on either side of the board so that the Platypus was fully visible in the middle.
We decided to adjust the layout so that the text was in the center and that each platypus head was facing an edge of the board, that way the brand name would be the main focal point.
Process
I worked in Procreate on an iPad Pro with Apple Pencil to create the entire illustration. I started out doing some rough sketches, and went on to refine a few. Apart from the platypus design I wanted to make sure that everything popped off the board, so for colors I decided to use a lighter/brighter blue and green for the platypus in the foreground. In order to really offset that I chose to use oranges and yellows in the background to drive home the contrast.
