Process & Timelapse videos

The creative process in it’s raw form.

Traffic Box Mural

Brandon was commissioned to paint the traffic box at the intersection of Coburg Road and Bailey Lane. This intersection is a well-used intersection and has a pre-school, middle school, and memory care facility all within sight of the box. Brandon created a design based on what he calls his popsicle peeps. This allowed Brandon to infuse the design with characters that are able to showcase various emotions, making it fun to look at and interact with. The design utilizes bright primary colors and solid black lines which make the box very legible. The artwork was also designed to be a seamless wrap around all four sides that would be one continuous scene.

Spaceman
Skate Deck

This board features a man floating in space. I’m a fan of sci-fi and the idea of a random person floating in space for no reason appealed to me. I didn’t want this one to be too serious so I designed the character to be wearing a Hawaiian-style shirt and shorts. The actual painting style is also very loose and sketchy. The ideation process for this one was a little different than other concepts in that I used Adobe’s AI Firefly to spit out some ideas I could reference. Ultimately I only ended up referencing the reflection in the helmet, but it was fun. Another deviation from my normal process was that I sprayed and splattered the entire board before I painted the floating astronaut. When looking closely at the board or running your fingers over it you can feel the bumps and texture from the various paint globs and splatter from the background.

Kraken
Vs. UFO Skateboard Deck

This board features a giant squid in the midst of pulling a UFO down into the water. Tales of giant sea creatures pulling ships down to the depths have been part of human mythology since we started venturing forth onto the many seas. The portrayal of sea monsters and ships is also very prevalent in traditional tattoo styles. I wanted to give that idea a twist so instead of a traditional ship I decided to depict a UFO to move the concept firmly into a more fun street art style. Fun fact, the coloring of the giant squid is based on a stuffed animal my daughter got at the Oregon Coast Aquarium in Newport.

HAND
PAINTED
TENNIS
SHOES

I customized these tennis shoes for my 9-year-old daughter, who is an avid nature lover. She requested an outdoor scene with flowers and bees.

Handmade Fingerboard Process

My first attempt at making a custom fingerboard by hand. I used 5 layers of veneer with wood glue and then applied a graphic printed on sticker paper.

Custom
Skullcandy Venue Headphones

I decided to customize my new Skullcandy Venue Headphones, to make them a little more fun. I used Posca paint markers. Here is a quick time-lapse of my process.

NAture’s Friend Print

This illustration was inspired by my daughter. She’s been a nature lover since she was little. She constantly collecting leaves, seeds, rocks, branches and flowers she can fit in her pockets or hold in her hands. Her greatest dream is to have every single animal she’s ever learned about living in harmony together on her own little farm. When we go outside she immediately walks up to our maple tree and tells it that it’s doing a great job growing, and in the fall she tells it to have a good sleep. She’s always reminding us to be nature’s friends and going out of her way to take care of plants and animals.

Tov Bus shoes

This was my first time painting shoes and it was AWESOME. I used Angelus Direct paints and Posca markers. It was fun taking a very detailed illustration I did for their packaging and creating a simplified version to fit on shoes.

Flamingo longboard

Acrylic on a gessoed longboard. This was one of the first skateboards I painted by hand. It was for a friend I worked with. For haloween he had dressed up as a pink flamingo.

Caroline

This painting was inspired by two separate songs, both titled Caroline. It’s about the hopeless, helpless feelings we all experience at some point in our lives. When it feels like we are falling and the farther we fall the darker it becomes adn the less we recognize ourselves. The more disconnected and disjointed we become. Sometimes we we can’t always find our way back, and we realize we just have to find a new way forward.

Mickey

This painting was for Trekell’s pet portrait competition in 2019. I painted my dog Mickey.

Oregon Sunset

This painting was commissioned as a birthday gift. It is the view of the owners property from their back deck. I worked from various photos for this painting, compiling the best pieces from each until we had the perfect sunset. Click below to read about the process. .

Eternity

This painting was commisioned by my sister and brother-in-law to celebrate their wedding anniversary. The painting is of them in front of the Portland LDS Temple where they where married.

River Scene - Part 1

This painting was commissioned by by an avid Fly Fisherman. He approached me and asked me to create a painting that would combine 4 or 5 different types of landscapes and terrains that he had encountered in his travels while fishing. The landscapes where all from all over the Pacific Northwest. Click below to read about the process.

Painting Wonder

This painting was a personal one for me as it is of my daughter. The reference image was taken while we where at a small fair in Salem, Oregon. We found a fun house that we went through a gazillion times. The photo was taken in the last room which was a crazy kaleidoscope of neon colors and sound. When you pushed these large colored buttons on the wall the sounds would change.
